Current Charitable Gift Trends, Tactics, and Structures (1.75 Hours)
Through two years of the pandemic, changes in the itemized deduction thresholds, and the highest inflation in forty years, donors are giving more than ever and look to you for guidance to maximize their gifts and results in this environment. How do you identify charitable giving options that will best fit the client’s needs in this rapidly changing environment? In this session you’ll learn:
- The trends and new gift options in philanthropy and giving that are fueling billion-dollar campaigns across the country;
- How to take to clients about charitable goals and objectives;
- Easy strategies to maximize current giving, even when the donor will not itemize;
- The most effective strategies for testamentary charitable giving, especially when the donor will not pay estate tax;
- How to select the most effective assets to use in making charitable gifts;
- Charitable strategies for retirement planning;
- Charitable strategies to care for elderly parents, children, and grandchildren;
- How to document client gift goals with gift or endowment agreements (with samples); and
- Other planning ideas that will increase donor capacity and allow the donor to achieve charitable goals.
Seven Options in Family Philanthropy (1.25 Hours)
High net worth clients, and even those who do not have a lot of assets, are increasingly interested in passing their values to lower generations by creating an institutional platform for family philanthropy. While private foundations are often the “go to” family philanthropy platform, private foundations are not always the answer because of the limitations on funding, paperwork and regulations around grants, required annual distributions, and self-dealing rule compliance! This session offers multiple options for family philanthropy, provides a checklist to help you analyze client goals, and provides insight into the seven forms, which include private foundations, supporting organizations, donor advised funds, charitable lead trusts, and other even easier options. Learn how to lead the donor through the goal setting discussion and select the entity that best meets their needs.
